ABSTRACT

This chapter explains how to bridge that gap, increase psychologists’ knowledge base, and begin to develop the skills psychologists will need for a long and fulfilling career. It also explains something of the role and function of the Health and Care Professionals Council, which is the regulatory authority for psychologists working in this country. Supervision policies vary across different Services but generally supervision should be relatively frequent during the induction period, gradually moving to at least a monthly meeting. Supervision includes a number of elements all of which can add to an EP's effectiveness and aid their development. The Association of Educational Psychologists (AEP) is both the professional organisation of Educational Psychologists and also their trade union. The AEP negotiates on rates of pay and terms and conditions of service with the employers at a national level through the Soulbury Committee.
