ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the Educational Psychologist (EP) can expect to start off as a main grade EP, working with a group of schools. The vast majority of EPs in this country are paid on the Soulbury Pay Scales. The Soulbury Committee meets annually and is a collective bargaining forum for negotiating the salaries and terms and conditions of service for local authority educational advisory professionals. Most local authority services have a leadership structure that includes the post of Senior Educational Psychologist (SEP). Invariably all SEP posts are advertised nationally and therefore are open for any qualified and experienced EP to apply. All local authority psychological services are led by a Principal Educational Psychologist (PEP). In some cases the job title may be slightly different, but the profession as a whole has always insisted that any service is led by a qualified EP.
