ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in this book. The book aims to open a fresh way for those doing research or managing research to consider ethics as part of their research work. The importance of research as one of the cornerstones of the modern knowledge-based society has been recognised by governments all around the world. A global labour market has been the standard in research for longer than in most other sectors. More and more research is completed with applied funding. This translates to a very competitive environment to secure essential resources to carry out research. External funding is one of the forces that calls for accountability, which translates to an increasing need for academic reviews. Social impact relates to the connection between researchers and the non-academic world, including business, media, policy-makers and the general public. Since the 1980s, those funding research have advocated a cross- and multidisciplinary approach to research.
