ABSTRACT

This chapter will highlight larger system level issues, such as events of a socio-political and socio-cultural nature, and their implications on various levels of the group including the college or university, the counseling center, and the therapy group. Racial and social inequities on the national level parallel those on the local level and interface with our colleagues and clients. This chapter necessitates the college counseling group therapist, trained in group dynamics and process, to take on a more social justice advocacy role in minimizing bias and oppression and creating structural changes that affect our systems and groups in more positive and equitable ways.
