ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book aims to expand the scope of possibilities, risks and solutions in the field of online therapy and consultation. It examines modern psychological theories from relational and intersubjective neurobiology field. Those approaches show how people are born into and are wired for relations and for the other’s face and voice. Most of the work of psychologists, counselors, psychotherapists, and mental health professionals is based on their understanding of human behavior and interpersonal processes. In each of these professions intimacy and trust is crucial. Inserting technology into the clinic, and particularly entering cyberspace, challenges these important perspectives. Giving up on the endless possibilities that open through remote meetings, and avoiding experimenting with new methods and creative formats of therapy and consultation seem no less extreme. This ambivalence reminds similar dilemmas that many scientists faced when developing new revolutionary technologies.
