ABSTRACT

The lack of diversity on offer within the housing market, which is particularly notable in housing production systems based on industrialisation and standardisation. The demands placed on housing today are increasing rapidly due to on-going social and cultural changes. The current housing production roots in Finland can be traced back to the emergence of modernism and functionalism, which have had a significant impact on housing production. Housing production has been an important engine for economic development. The planning phase can be characterised in Finland in a manner that is seen as responsible for producing the housing quality as well as the innovations. Production of innovations is one of the main driving forces in the systemic view of the world. Ball refers mainly to technical innovations and skills enhancement in construction, but the social and spatial innovations are just as important.
