ABSTRACT

The author of this chapter describes personal encounters with Edith Kramer that convey her ethnic culinary experiences. Over shared meals and discussion about food, early associations were readily elicited. Edith’s ease of reminiscence in this realm reflected her pleasure, as well as the significance of understanding historic context and origin. Through humorous vignettes such as watching Edith cook and speak Yiddish, the importance of cultural identity for oneself and one’s clients is underscored.
