ABSTRACT
On the Siberian land, how by the will of God it was captured by a Russian army, assembled and led by the ataman Yermak son ofTimofey and his valiant, excellent and single-minded company.
The infidel kingdom began in Sibir', and that is why it was called Sibir', and how by the will of God it was captured by Orthodox Christians, by a Russian army, as a heritage for the Russian Crown; how they defeated Khan Kuchyum son of Martazey,2 and on the courage and bravery of the Russian army, assembled and led by the ataman Yermak son of Timofey; on the establishing of cities in the Siberian land and on the building of Orthodox churches; likewise concerning the miracles of our Most Holy Lady the Virgin Mary, Mother of God, where they were performed during our day and generation: all these and other matters I have set forth each in chapters, so that they can all be traced without difficulty.
