ABSTRACT

This chapter is designed as a guide to the way Transactional Analysis (TA) sees the formation and structure of an organization, and explains how its culture develops and the subsequent leadership processes that come into play. Change in an organization is harder to achieve without an understanding of its history and development and the influence this has on the present and the future. The private structure of an organization is particularly important during times of change or new appointments. The chapter presents diagrams, which can be used to assess how people think the organization, division, department or team is at the moment and where they would like it to be. The diagrams can be used as a basis for discussion and ways found to consider how to make the changes required to achieve a shared vision. Imagoes represent the individual's developing pictures of themselves and others in the organization, team or group, taken at different points in time.
