ABSTRACT

This chapter outlines the concept of Working Styles as a way to increase understanding, develop tolerance and expand people's ability to relate with others. In Transactional Analysis (TA) there are five different Working Styles: Please Others, Be Strong, Hurry Up, Be Perfect and Try Hard. In order to work well together teams need to form quickly and develop trust. Often clashes between people in teams are due to different Driver behaviour. For example, someone who has a Hurry Up Driver is likely to be quite agitated by someone who has a Be Perfect Driver, and vice versa. It is worth considering how different employees might work to their strengths. For instance, if a project manager is required then the person with the Try Hard Working Style would be really good here, whilst someone with a Be Strong Working Style would be really good in crisis management.
