Higher Education and the Virtual Team Global Business Model
Educational establishments can also benefit from the Virtual Team Global Business Model. As mentioned in Chapter 1, students are often required to work in virtual teams to complete assignments as a group. They may be geographically dispersed and have to work with other students in locations across the country, and sometimes the world, to submit a joint assignment. Instructional designers (ISDs) are now creating curricula that integrate virtual team projects, and educators are encouraging the use of virtual team assignments for the following reasons:
• Leadership-It gives students an opportunity to lead a group and develop their project management skills. Some adult learners may already have management experience and know how to lead a group, but others need to develop their leadership skills, and virtual teams can provide them with opportunities to do this even if they have no desire to actually lead the team-for instance, if other adult learners are failing to participate.
