CHAPTER 4 VIRTUAL TEAM GUIDES AND VIRTUAL TEAM MEMBERS USING THE VIRTUAL TEAM GLOBAL BUSINESS MODEL

In Chapter 3, I stated, “The team leader or project manager should establish clear deliverables so that VTGs and VTMs understand the expectations and due dates.” In Communication Phase 2, team leaders or project managers have communicated the project plan, project needs, and deliverables to the VTMs and VTGs, so those two groups are responsible for deliverables at this point. The VTGs are responsible for keeping the team leader abreast of any issues and the fluidity of the project, meeting with any other VTGs of virtual teams located elsewhere for updates, making sure that the team is flowing and that the VTMs have any assistance required to complete the project deliverables, and ensuring that all submissions are gathered into one packet or one area in the company’s software, such as e-room, where the team leader and management can check progress on deliverables. The VTGs’ main role is facilitation, helping to keep the virtual teams

moving fluidly and managing deliverables. The VTML focuses on accountability: each member of the group is accountable, and if one of them is not contributing to completing a task, then management can assess the situation appropriately by targeting roles that are not being fulfilled.
