Beth Jorgensen's examines all of Poniatowskas available works, and the point is to try to make a case for the dialogic nature of her texts. The nascent literature of Mexico gained ground at times as a curb on Spanishness, at others as an intensification of it. Bodies works examines there is little that is overtly sexual in the way that we have come to expect of writing that might fall under the criture category. Poniatowskas risk-taking lends itself to multiple lines of analysis, and for this reason her work has been cited in a number of contexts. European background alone seems to propel much of the commentary toward a contemporary Continental slant. The criticism of machista values, including violence against the weak, results from many years of personal experience and does not apply to the young protagonist. In post-war Mexico, Poniatowskas is one of those who succeeded in making the crucial moves to enable a certain plateauing to take place.
