ABSTRACT

What works for women in agriculture? This question has been central to the chapters in this book. In this final chapter, I highlight and integrate some main insights from this collection, exploring its major themes in more depth. We opened this volume with the contention that practical solutions can ultimately inform our theorizing about women in agriculture more broadly while, at the same time, creating positive changes in women’s everyday lives. In the following sections I identify some theoretical and practical implications of this collection of chapters from around the world. I examine two interconnected themes arising from the book: the transformative potential of everyday practice and agency, and the significance of gradual change. I explore the relevance of this collection within its broader global context and conclude with a summary overview of the practical solutions presented in this book.
