ABSTRACT

This chapter helps to promote mutually beneficial activity and indeed directly cooperative effort in the twin spheres of performance and scholarship on women composers. Scholars with special interests in women's music, such as Harald and Sharon Krebs, have integrated performance and scholarship in producing modern editions and recordings of women's Lieder as well as publishing major studies of the composers and their works. For a number of reasons the connection between performance and scholarship is particularly relevant for women composers. Collected editions of composer's Lieder are an important feature of recent work on women composers; these volumes are complemented by anthologies containing selected songs either by a single composer or by several composers. The bibliography that follows represents an attempt to consolidate some of the main sources, listing items the chapter considers of particular interest for the study of women's Lieder.
