ABSTRACT
Throughout history men and women have contributed to the reproduction of the social world, but the nature of this partnership has changed over time. Paid work has long been associated with men, but the steady disintegration of the traditional family model in which only men perform work outside of the home has been accompanied by a greater income equality for women, both at home and in the professional sphere.
