ABSTRACT

In the traditional business school classroom, students sit passively and listen while professors stand and talk. Why? The basic pedagogical proposition underlying the professional business degree is that the students can gain knowledge that will help them to act in the future. These future actions are presumed to take place in organizational contexts – the students speculate that firms will hire them at a good wage based in part on the credential of a business school degree. In this scenario, if students have learned well the lessons that they were taught in business school, then once on the job they will be more likely to perform well, succeeding as business people and thriving as productive members of society.
