ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the encounter between body and surroundings, academia and the everyday, philosophical thinking and lived experience. Their morphological, topographical and topological knowledges of the sites are generated through these deeply-sensed and embodied understandings of scale. The chapter describes the various relationships and experiences generated between moving body and moving environment of the participants. The body is revealed as expressive of the ongoing flow of forces and intensities present in world. The chapter reveals how the moving body is expressive of the intensity and power of these physically mobile coastal sites. It looks at a moment of distillation, where the central motivations and focuses of the research emerge through the voices of the participants. Weaving through these participant's communications is a muted echoing of the philosophical positions. The three participants here are revealing various sensibilities towards the coast as a spatially mobile entity.
