ABSTRACT

This chapter explores that the management arise between the board's strategic objective and the creative execution. This is specifically called design management. The chapter considers how design and corporate strategy objectives are measured by a balanced scorecard and its reporting system. This is followed by the design audit to gather and evaluate information, which then establishes the project design management process, comprising project goal, designer activities and working practices. The chapter examines the resolving of designer manager conflict and the design financial measurements of success. Design policies endorse design as a formal activity at board and senior management level, articulating the corporate strategy. The final design is chosen from a selection of designs which then forms the style manual necessary for future reproduction and design stages. Website design offers another dimension to product design management. The final assessment occurs by establishing how satisfactorily the project has been completed across all design management and balanced scorecard metrics.
