Walter M. Miller Jr (1923-96) was an American science-ﬁction writer, whose only
novel A Canticle for Leibowitz was published in 1960. This was a reworking of a
series of short stories which had originally appeared in The Magazine of Fantasy and
Science Fiction, 1955-57. The novel won the prestigious Hugo award at the 1961
World SF Convention (Clute and Nicholls 1993, 809).
