Fields of Cultural Production and Consumption
This chapter discusses a new textual expressions and patterns of narration. The narrative unfolding as well as the narrative complexity differ between the various media technologies in which they appear and the narrative is a bit different. The chapter discusses the television format as a part of institutional and market convergence. As many television formats include the active use of web and mobile phone services and the new textual features connected to such multi platform media production. That television has had a prominent position in this chapter is by no means a coincidence. There are two fairly recent Swedish examples of transmedia productions in which the television broadcast is extended to the web and mobile phone, representing two kinds of multiplatform productions. Television programme formats are often at the top of the hierarchy when it comes to multiplatform productions, whereas the web and the mobile are add-ons to the television programme.
