ABSTRACT

One of the problems with the phrase ‘follow-up’ is the connotation it has of rounding things up and bringing them to a conclusion. In some sense that is the case, but there is a great deal more to follow-up than that. Following a visit with a single classroom session and regarding that as sufficient should be avoided at all costs. Any visit that can be followed up in this way was not worth making in the first place. A visit should be regarded as part of a long term programme of work and should provide enough impetus to carry it forward for at least as long as the preparatory period.
