ABSTRACT

This chapter addresses what organizations can do to tackle the phenomenon of dysfunction in leadership and what individuals can do, as well as exploring what countries are doing from a legal standpoint as more of them are beginning to address the topic of dysfunction in the workplace. Retaliation is an issue that is often a concern for individuals who are targets of or bystanders witnessing dysfunctional leadership. When these behaviors are recognized, it is usually not reported. Organizations train employees on how to address sexual harassment in the workplace, but few countries actually have employment laws in place relating to dysfunctional leadership or behavior in the workplace. Addressing dysfunctional leadership is not easy. Once defined, finding strategies and ways to approach the topic is a challenge. Employees struggle with ways to find help with coping with this type of behavior in organizations. Employees will try to reach out to others in the organization.
