ABSTRACT

Workplace bullying has been a major concern within corporations in many different countries. In US, over 50 percent of workers have reported that they have been exposed to bullying in the workplace. Organizations downplay adult bullying as people not getting along or simple conflict between two or more individuals. This chapter addresses bullying and the type of bullying tactics utilized, it is important to understand the impact of bullying. It discusses in further detail how to address dysfunctional behavior as well as the impact of the types of behavior. Like any dysfunctional leader, the bully thrives in work environments that are full of chaos and uncertainty. Research shows that organizations that demonstrate a lack of security due to layoffs, cultures that are highly chaotic and lower levels of job satisfaction demonstrate high levels of bullying. In addition, organizations that are related to the service sector or public services experience higher levels of bullying.
