ABSTRACT

The common themes related to narcissism demonstrate that narcissistic individuals are self-centered and over-confident in their abilities. The most common forms of narcissism include the constructive, proactive or productive narcissist, who focuses on the positive attributes of corporate narcissism. In contrast, the reactive, destructive or unproductive narcissist focuses on the negative attributes of corporate narcissism. This chapter explores the negative aspects of narcissistic leadership in order to gain a better understanding of negative traits and behaviors in leadership. It also explores each of the characteristics and traits of the reactive narcissist in further depth. Narcissism has the ability to change the culture of the organization. This is demonstrated in the higher levels of leadership where the narcissist resides; as a result, the chances are that the corporate culture will morph to one of corporate narcissism. The narcissistic leader believes in the power of words and using them to engage as well as intrigue followers.
