ABSTRACT

Questioning the ways leaders lead, in the horizon of a renewal of humans’ and organizations’ attitude and behaviour towards diversity is urgent. The legitimacy of authority and grounds upon which it is based are in question. It is evident that people need authority. As the current worldwide financial crisis shows, humans cannot live without any kind of control concerning the possibility of a political –for example, par excellence, collective – life. The tension between business and the notion of a possible common good is nowadays in question (Bibard); authority and leadership are inescapable if humans are to live a bearable collective life (Hobbes 1985, 1982). It is nevertheless quite uncertain how to reach such a ‘bearable’ collective life through authority and leadership.
