ABSTRACT

This chapter demonstrates how to apply those methods in transportation science. The demonstration is done on a microsimulation model for evaluation of regulation of environmental external costs of transport introduced by Brha and Brhov-Foltnov. It briefly describes the microsimulation model. The chapter summarizes the main ideas and selected techniques of global sensitivity analysis. The decomposition equation is exact if the inputs are orthogonal, which will be the case in the present chapter. The chapter applies the variance-based methods of global sensitivity analysis, to the microsimulation model. This chapter presents methods of global sensitivity analysis and demonstrates how they can be applied to microsimulation models used in transportation science. It concludes that the global sensitivity analysis techniques can be an important helper to researchers, policymakers and other stakeholders, since they can make modelling results more transparent and therefore more understandable and credible.
