ABSTRACT

As shown in Chapter 2 on methodology, the case study from Colombia is based on interviews with experts in different fields and organizations, from environmental authorities to NGOs and universities, but all with an expertise concerning wildlife and wildlife trafficking in Colombia. Colombia is a nation rich in biodiversity and regarded primarily as a source country for wildlife trade, but as we shall see, the majority of the animals are trafficked within its borders or to neighbouring countries. Before I enter into the specifics of the trade as presented through my data, I will provide a glimpse into the historical and cultural foundations of WLT there.
