ABSTRACT

This chapter deals with Organizational Diagnosis and Management. It is about examining, diagnosing, managing and monitoring problems which are adversely affecting organizational health, and how to plan and staff these activities. At present there seem to be two main approaches to the systematic diagnosis problems. The chapter looks back over time to see if there were times when things were better or even worse and to look for associated changes that may explain the variations. The Local Authority administering the school had placed a small advertisement in a national publication advertising many teaching jobs. The Local Authority was infamous for its poor performance in league tables of results, and the advertisement said little more than Teachers Wanted, apply to the Head Teacher. Planning should anticipate a multi-stage iterative process which involves collecting and analysing information until explanations of what has happened can be reached, diagnosis confirmed and management can be planned on a rational basis.
