ABSTRACT

Over the years three main ways of dealing with existential anxiety have emerged and these correspond to First Generation Leadership, Second Generation Leadership and Third Generation Leadership. Third Generation Leadership has been emerging but unlike its immediate predecessor, it is a substantial change from the preceding phase and its emergence requires shifts in underlying thought processes and behaviour as well as changes in policies, technologies and training. To the operating from the traditional leadership perspectives, Third Generation Leadership is unsettling. By dealing with existential anxiety by means of ensuring every person knows that they matter; that they will be listened to; and that they are important in their own rights. Third Generation Leadership develops self-confident people. Self-confident people are secure in the knowledge that there is a way forward and they are confident in their ability to find Third Generation Leadership answers to Third Generation Leadership issues in a Third Generation Leadership world.
