These[vessels]leavingEnglandinMarch,onOctoberthe fifteenthfollowing(1614)anchoredatSouthSwally,notfarre fromSurrat;wheretheyfoundthecountreyinarmesagainstthe Portugais,whichhadalittlebeforetakenashipoftheMogols, inwhichwassaidtobeethreemillionsoftreasureandtwowomen boughtfortheGreatMogol.TheyalsotookeaGuzzarateship, worthonehundredthousandpounds,withsevenhundredpersonstherin,atthebarreofSurat(notwithstandingtheirowne passegrantedthem),andsentthemtoGoaz.TheDecanims[see p.4n.]laidsiegetoChaul,andMocrobChanwastodoehis utmostforhismaster,theMogol.TheMooresonallhands soughttheirdestruction,andtheyweredriventosendaway manyhundrethsoftheBanyans[Hindus]outoftheirtownes, tofreethemselvesofunprofitablemouths;threebarkesofwhich cametoSurat,otherstoCambaya.
