ABSTRACT

The foundation of the doctrine of the Trinity is the encounter with Jesus Christ. Christ meets man as divine, not merely godlike or closely connected to God, but the very fullness of God, and Christ reveals Himself as Son, distinct from His divine Father. The Spirit, though fully distinct from both Father and Son, is poured out upon man as the Spirit of God. We thus discover three distinct divine Persons sharing one divine nature. The doctrine of the Trinity affirms the full divinity of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit—three divine Persons subsisting in one divine nature.
