Others, and among them the author o f the Aghdni, make the original colonists to have consisted o f a large body o f troops which Moses, on reaching Syria, had despatched against the Am&lica, with order to exter minate them utterly; but that having spared the young son o f the Amalekite king, Arcam, the Israelites refused to receive them on their return from the expedition. Whereupon they retraced their way back to the Hij&z, and finally settled at Yathrib, Khaibar, and the adjoining districts.
