ABSTRACT

From this town one turns towards Spain. We came then to the Count of Harr [Haro]. 1 His town is also called Harr. The Count showed my lord great honour, sending him everything he needed and paying all expenses. He expressed great surprise that my lord had come so far to see him. In his town, also at his court, are Christians, heathens and Jews. He leaves each one to his belief. The Count is said to be a Christian, but no one knows what his belief is. Finally my lord left on the eve of St John 2 and a day later my lord’s finest stallion died. The people in the town are murderous and evil folk. They had many affrays with us. Neither by day or night were we safe and had to keep our weapons ready at hand.
