ABSTRACT

At the start of his third decade in the industry, Trevor Jones provided scores for pictures starring A-list actors including Kevin Costner (Thirteen Days, 2000), Johnny Depp (From Hell, 2001), Sean Connery (The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, 2003) and Steve Coogan/Jackie Chan (Around the World in 80 Days, 2004). In contrast to the films considered in the previous chapter, Jones’s scores took centre stage in these pictures, offering opportunities to evaluate his sound and style on productions with significant budgets. The Trevor Jones Archive contains materials relating to several of these pictures that highlight the different industrial processes that underpinned them and permit exploration of the ways in which Jones developed his musical processes to respond to the demands of the various industrial frameworks. The role of the music editor is a key part of this discussion, which also includes Jones’s work on Crossroads (2002) and I’ll Be There (2003), which feature singers Britney Spears and Charlotte Church, respectively.
