AfterPtolemaisoftheBuntings,atadistanceofabout 3000stadcs,thereisthecustomaryn1artofAdouli,lying inadeepbaythatrunssouthwards;infrontofitisan islandcalledOt-cine,whichisabout200stadesoutinthe seafromtheinmostpartofthebay.lyingalongthe mainlandonbothsides,whereshipsenteringanchoron accountofattacksfron1themainland.Foratonetime theyusedtoanchorrightinsidethebayattheislandcalled OfDidorosalongthemainlandwheretherewasa crossingonfoot,bymeansofwhichtheBarbaroiliving thereattackedtheisland.AndoppositeOreineonthe tnainland,twentystadesfromthesea,isAdouli,avillage ofmoderatesize,fron1whichtoKoloe,aninlandcityand thefirstivory1narket,itisajourneyofthreedays;and fromthis,anotherfivedaystothemetropoliscalledthe Axomite,1towhichisbroughtalltheivoryfrombeyond theNilethroughthedistrictcalledKueneion,andthence toAdouli.Forthewholequantityofelephantand rhinoceroswhichiskilledgrazesintheinterior,though occasionallytheyareseenbythesearoundaboutAdouli.
