ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book provides the case studies that would not have occurred without the general EU framework. There are several answers which emerge from these cases, but it supposes there could be even more. However, two of them are the most significant for the content of this book. The first concerns the social dynamics which underly the interaction among the group members, between them and local citizens, and with political institutions. The second is the language they use to communicate, legitimize and substantiate their involvement in green politics. The new environmentalism benefits from a polyfunctional set of strategies devised by the different types of movements, both in their practices and in their discourses. New environmentalism stems from several tensions in the economic, social and political spheres. New environmentalism has been inspired by the ideological, programmatic and policy objectives of the EU enlargement.
