The formative events

ByWalter Nunzio Sisto

This chapter provides a brief biological sketch of Sergius Bulgakov, highlighting events in his life that influenced his Mariology. Bulgakov’s brief fascination with Catholicism as well as his rejection of Catholicism and reaffirmation of his faith in Orthodoxy and immigration to Paris provides the motivation for his first major Mariological work, The Burning Bush. However, his Dresden experience and the fascination with sexuality among prominent thinkers in Russia during the first decade of the twentieth century also left an important imprint on his life and work.
