A great deal of rumour and inaccuracy creeps into most books written about the hearings into the Order of the Temple and its members.1 Other scholars or interested persons who have read some of the evidence state that it is repetitive, boring, clearly invented by the notaries or by the inquisitors, and hence of no real use. The reality is different indeed.
