ABSTRACT

Quintano and Bauzá did not get back until midnight. They had been up river since early morning with the captain of the brig Carmen and Don Antonio Pineda, the former to take bearings with the theodolite and to complete the triangulation and the latter to explore the country and its inhabitants of whatever kind they might be. The north wind which had blown violently all afternoon and evening had persuaded us to hoist all boats. [12th] The same wind continued blowing quite strongly next day, when it veered to NE, making it impractical for us to unmoor. We spent that day rating our chronometers and drawing a chart of the coast that we had surveyed between Río Negro and Puerto Deseado to give to the captain of the brig Carmen and thus ensure its prompt and safe delivery to the Ministro de Marina in case we got separated from that vessel once again. I included a brief explanation with it, stating that time did not allow all the data compiled on board both the corvettes to be included.
