ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book demonstrates the threat posed by financial crime towards the UK and explains how its negative implications cannot be underestimated or ignored. It argues that fraud has developed at such an unprecedented level that it is becoming increasingly difficult prosecutorial agencies. The book shows how insider dealing poses a specific threat to the City of London, as famously illustrated in the United States of America (USA) by Michael Douglas who played the character Gordon Gekko in the 1987 20th Century Fox film, Wall Street. It discusses the law relating to financial crime in the United Kingdom (UK). The book considers the first type of financial crime known as money laundering. The UK has implemented at times a robust financial crime policy that often exceeds the minimum standards set by the UN, the European Union (EU) and the Financial Action Task Force (FATF).
