ABSTRACT

To understand the role of ecology in environmental law addressing pesticide-related issues, it is necessary to have a basic understanding of some fundamental ecological concepts and how they relate to pests, pest management, and pesticides. Another ecological concept important in pest management is that of trophic dynamics. Trophic relationships in an ecosystem are often referred to in common parlance as the food chain. Another important ecological concept related to pest population and pest management is the different life-history strategies employed by different types of organisms. The field of ecology has existed for many decades, but only in the last 30 years or so has ecological study advanced to the point where we are beginning to understand the importance of biodiversity to natural systems. Ecology is the science of the interactions of living organisms with each other and their biotic and abiotic environment.: a community of organisms together with the abiotic environment in a specified region.
