ABSTRACT

One apparently obvious indicator of someone involved in deputizing is when they hold the title Deputy. However, we are not so much concerned here with roles that are established, titled and rewarded as such in the organization hierarchy (for instance, in the police service, for example, Deputy Chief Constable, or in the education service, for example, Deputy Head Teacher) as we are with those occasions or periods of time when one person deputizes for another without changing their formal title and then returns to their normal job.
