ABSTRACT

These are all ways by which to banish distance, at least to some extent. Teleconferencing removed the need for a whole series of calls to people who needed to be party to a discussion or decision. All could be present at the same time and also hear the comments of each other, rather than their having to be funnelled through one co-ordinating caller. The video conference extended this, providing the visual input of expression and body language, plus allowing the use of visual material (for example, with a camera on the ceiling zooming into a paper on the desk).
