ABSTRACT

Members of disadvantaged, historically oppressed and minority groups must often deal with the negative feelings, beliefs and actions of those belonging to dominant groups. Discrimination frequently occurs in the work organizations in which adults spend much of their waking lives, and the costs to the individual employees, organizations and society are too large to ignore. The present chapter addresses the consequences that experienced discrimination can have on physical and mental health, and offers possible solutions to create healthier work environments that embrace diversity, tolerance and inclusion.
