The Battle of Somme-Py: Champagne – Swansong of the Medium Tanks
Pages 30

The Battle of Soissons had proved to the French Army that tanks could be used as a substitute for artillery in semi-mobile warfare but it remained to be seen if this approach could work in an attack on a strongly fortified position. While the operations of IV Army in Champagne in September and October 1918 were not as significant as those of Second Marne, the Battle of Somme-Py provides an interesting case study for the use of tanks in an attack on a fortified area.
