ABSTRACT

In previous chapters we concentrated on the analysis of political discourse as dialogue and on how this perspective may contribute to explaining political change in a specific political culture. Putting the focus on the Venezuelan case, as an example of the collapse of democracies in our society, was productive in that we were able to show the transition from a stable representative democracy to an authoritarian-military revolution by examining data that revealed such changes. In order to bring the threads of my argument together and highlight the insights of each chapter, I would like to conclude by summarizing the major theoretical and methodological issues that my research has brought to attention, which I believe are all aspects that need to be explored further in democracies in other countries of Latin America and in other regions of the world.
