ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the authors describe how their pathways intersected, and how they came to assemble a narrative from their individual experiences. They also describe their individual stories using the structure-culture-agency framework as a guiding conceptual lens. The authors provide reflection and recommendations to institutions that serve Latina/o students who fit their profile for the purposes of equity and excellence. They utilize reflective narratives of their experiences, to shed light on best practices, processes, and policies that work as means to inform pathways leading to college and career success. As a collective group of Chicano scholars, they also believe it is their responsibility to share their stories as researchers, educators, and advocates, so that emerging students can learn and connect, institutional agents can recognize and advocate, and so that policymakers can realize the power of their decisions on the lives of real people.
