ABSTRACT

It is not necessary for you to be an actor to understand what is going on in Shakespeare’s language, but understanding how an actor thinks and works is a great help. I have tried in these pages to show how my understanding of the original texts has grown and developed through performance, not study. Simply by putting an actor’s point of view onto the words and the situations, we can see what the original actor would have found when presenting these plays to audiences in Elizabethan and Jacobean times.
