ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book discusses the multiple definitions and meanings of popular culture as well as its many roles and impact on human society. It explores popular culture's relationship with tourism and its scholarship, socialization, and construction. The book examines the characteristics and implications of synontological spaces. It focuses on the predominant forms of popular culture such as film and music, a number of contributions extend to examine the interplay of dance and football with national identity and the impact of technology adoption on cricket. The book studies the local narratives and new representations of space reinforced by popular culture and their implications for tourism marketing. It establishes the need for developing more knowledge on the different forms of popular culture expressions – as a function of mediatization – and their contribution to different perceptions of place for various stakeholders and its subsequent challenges.
